Mangaluru, Nov 11, 2023: Amid the ongoing mud-slinging by the BJP and Congress leaders over “sand shortage” in the district, the Mines Department officials have clarified that there was no shortage of sand in the district.

According to the officials of the department of the 25 sand mining contracts in non-CRZ areas, 24 are still operating.

According to officials sand extraction is restricted from June to October 15 during monsoon. During the period the sand contractors had 102467 metric tonnes of sand stocked of which 27023 metric tonnes sand  is supplied and  still 75444 metric tonnes sand was available.

Officials informed that the 16 M-sand units of the district can produce 336400 metric tonnes of M-Sand annually.
