No restrictions on Ganesha festival, IGP warns rumour mongers on social sites

Mangalore Today News Network

Bengaluru, August 13, 2017: DG & IGP R K Datta on Saturday said ’stern action will be taken against those spreading rumours on social networking sites and some newspapers over restriction by police to celebrate Ganesha festival. No such restrictions are imposed by the government or police’, he clarified.

RK DuttaSome people have spread rumours that organisers have to bring stamp paper and security deposit to take permission from the police department to install Ganesha idols.

A section of the media had quoted the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) stating that the police have demanded deposits from organizations in Mangaluru, Puttur and other parts of the state to carry out Ganesha processions.

Report on communal clashes
Datta said the report over communal clashes in Mangaluru has been submitted to the government. However, he did not reveal any details about the report.

Sources said according to the report, some elements have given a communal colour to the incidents. “Datta also visited those parts to review the situation and the episodes were portrayed as communal clashes by some elements with vested interest.

There are no names of a specific organisation nor recommendation of banning any in the report. Further, the murder case of RSS worker Sharath Madiwala in Bhantwal was well planned and the reason behind it was not communal hatred,” a source said.
