No public meets, celebrations, protests on December 6: Deputy commissioner

Mangaluru, Nov 30, 2015: Deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim has issued an order prohibiting public/ religious/ political meets, procession, jatha, strike, rasta rokho, or any types of protests, distribution of handbills and pasting of wall posters in Dakshina Kannada district from midnight of December 5 to midnight of December 6.

Ibrahim has issued the order as per the Section 35 of the Karnataka Police Act 1963 to prevent untoward incidence and to maintain law and order in the wake of anniversary of Babri Masjid demolition. The district administration in an order stated that there are possibilities of one group celebrating the anniversary of Babri Masjid demolition and another observing black day. "The district has already witnessed many untoward incidents recently and to prevent any such instances we have decided to promulgate prohibitory orders as per Section 35 of the Karnataka Police Act 1963," the DC stated.

As per the prohibitory order, people are not allowed to carry weapons and stones. One should not make derogatory statements or speeches, distribute handbills and refrain from holding public programmes. Local authorities will have no powers to grant permission for public programmes. In case of any special programmes, then the permission for the same should be obtained directly from the district magistrate, the DC added.
