No injustice to gas pipeline land losers: Deputy Commissioner

Mangaluru Dec 24, 2017 (DHNS): The district administration will give priority to recompensing land losers while laying GAIL pipeline to the tune of present market value of the land, said Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil.

He was speaking at land owners’ meeting in Mangaluru on Friday.

"The pipeline will pass through 35 km in Dakshina Kannada. The issue of a meagre amount of compensation paid to the land losers has come to my knowledge. I will hold discussions with the GAIL and the government to provide compensation of at least market value of the land," he said.

"As per the guidelines, 10 % of the government valuation of the land should be given. However, the issue of huge difference in government valuation and real market value of the land has been brought to my notice," said the DC.

The pipeline will pass through Malavoor, Adyapady, Kandavara, Muloor, Addur, Mallur, Arkula, Pavoor, Kenjar, Thokur, Meramajalu,Kairangala, Balepuni, Kurnadu and some other villages. Senthil added, "Work on the 435-km pipeline from Kochi to Mangaluru is in progress. I will hold discussions with individual families who will be affected by the pipeline project and assured that no building located on the path of the pipeline would be demolished."

The DC promised that no injustice will be meted out to the land losers.

Santhosh Kumar Boliyar said that without suitable promise, 824 families have lost their land, houses and arecanut trees. "The real problems should be understood. The compensation should be more than the market value of the land," he demanded.
