Mangaluru, Aug 13, 2016: Nitte University will offer certificate programs in select dialects of the North Eastern States of India. A formal inauguration event was held on 12th August, 2016 at the K S Hedge Medical Academy Auditorium.

Presiding over the function, the Chancellor of Nitte University, Shri N. V. Hegde spoke about his love and affection for the people of North East and stressed upon why it is important to bring about emotional and cultural integration with the people of the NE. Shri N. V. Hegde also shared the experiences of his visit to the North East and urged the people of this part of the country to visit those states without any apprehension about the safety and security issues.

The chief guest for the function Dr. Elsa Sanatombi Devi highlighted the importance of keeping local dialects alive by not only learning them but also conversing in them. She encouraged everyone to participate in these programs. Taking examples from her own life, she explained how knowing a language helps one connect with the local people.  The Vice Chancellor of the University Dr. S. Ramananda Shetty spoke about the status of the education system in the North East India and about the various initiatives that Nitte has been taking in addressing the concerns of the North Eastern students. 

The Registrar of the University Dr. M. S. Moodithaya welcomed the gathering and spoke about the importance of these kinds of unique programs in connecting with the brothers and sisters of that part of our country. Dr. Anirban Chakraborty, coordinator of the Namaste Centre proposed the vote of thanks.

The Certificate programs will be offered in four languages; Assamiya (Assam), Meiteilon (Manipur), Mao (Nagaland) and Khasi (Meghalaya) commencing from September 2016 for a duration of 14 weeks with evening classes at Paneer campus of the University.

The program was followed by a cultural event presented by the North Eastern students pursuing different courses in the University.
