Nitte University to launch “Cashless Munnur Village Program”

Mangaluru, Dec 15: Nitte University, in association with syndicate Bank is working on converting Munnur Village of Dakshina Kannada District as a Cashless Village.  As per 2011 census, the village has a population of 8.919 comprising of 1509 households.  The program is being implemented by the University using the services of its NSS Volunteers, Students of Syndicate-Nitte School of Banking, the local youth clubs and the Munnur Grama Panchayath.  The program would involve attempts to achieve cent percent financial inclusion and educating the villagers on the use of ATMs, mobile banking and payment wallets.

As a part of the project, a formal inaugural program will be held on Sunday, the 18th December 2016 at 10.00 AM in the Munnur Grama Panchayath Community Hall.  The program would be presided over by Sri  N.V. Hegde, Chancellor, Nitte University and Sri Nalin Kumar Kateel, Member of Parliament, Sri U.T. Khader, MLA and Minister of Food and Civil Supplies, Govt. of Karnataka, Dr. N.K Thingalaya, former Chairman of Syndicate Bank, Sri  N.S. Somayaji, DGM, Syndicate Bank and Smt. Roopa R. Shetty, President Munnur Grama Panchayat would be the guests of honour.

The inaugural program would be followed by door-to-door campaign for opening bank accounts, providing point of sale machines to shopkeepers and vendors, on the spot demonstrations on the use of phone banking and e-wallets etc.
