Mangaluru, Sep 6,2015 :  Students must not restrict themselves to the degrees and awards they achieve, but also  aim at achieving greater heights, said  Dr MC Mishra, Director of All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi.

He was addressing the 5th Convocation ceremony of Nitte University held at KS Hegde Auditorium, Derlakatte  on  September 5, Saturday.  Dr Mishra also urged young medical graduates to offer health services in rural areas by deciding to serve India’s villages.

In his address, Dr Mishra also lauded the progress achieved by the Nitte University over the years as well as the qualitative education imparted to thousands of students  through various institutions under its umbrella.

He presented  degrees to 15  Ph.D students, 151 medical graduates, 151 dental graduates, 110 pharmacy students, 76 nursing students, 22 students of allied sciences and 16 students of physiotherapy,  Degrees were also presented  to five  journalism students and five B.Sc students.

 The gold medallists include : Dr Joshi M Bharath -Dr A K Munshi gold medal in periodontics and preventive dentistry, Dr Ksing Hui ( BDS )- Dr U S Mohandas Nayak Award and Nitte University gold medal, Dr K Kavyamala (MBBS)-  late Mulky Ramamohan Adyantaya gold medal and Nitte University gold medal, Deeksha U Suvarna ( Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science)- Nitte University gold medal, Bidya Paudel(B.Sc Nursing)- Nitte University gold medal, Thenzin Joyedan( Post Basic Bachelor of Science in Nursing)- Nitte University gold medal and Vidya (M.Sc Bio Medical Science)- Dr Indrani Karunasagar gold medal.

Dr. N Vinay Hegde, Chancellor of Nitte University presided over the function. Dr Shantharam Shetty, Vice Chancellor, Dr MS Moodithaya, Registrar, Dr Satish Kumar Bhandary, Dean of KSHEMA, Dr US Krishna Nayak, Dean of A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences and others were present.
