Niddodi power plant in Moodbidri taluk shelved?

Mangalore, May 24, 2014: Speaking to presspersons after laying the foundation stone of the residential accomodation for the staff of the Forest Department. B. Ramanath Rai, Minister for Forests, Environment and Ecology and district in-charge of Dakshina Kannada.

rai Made a cryptic statement that the proposal to set up a thermal power plant has shelved. The project was of a 4,000 MW thermal power plant at Niddodi and it faced resistance for past three years .

He said, “Considering the opposition of the people to the project, we have stopped the project.”

Mr. Rai said a diversionary elephant corridor from Nagarahole to Belgaum would be considered, the existing one was ineffective in limiting elephants to their territory. “The interests of the people living around it would be considered.” He stated.
