The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) officials have submitted a proposal to the DK DC to revise the water rationing system. DC Sasikanth Senthil has approved it and the new water rationing system is likely to be implemented today May 12, Sunday.

Now, authorities are supplying water for 96 hours and discontinuing it for 48 hours.  Anticipating rain in the catchment areas of River Nethravathi, the MCC Commissioner B H Narayanappa had announced a time table for water supply for 96 hours and discontinuing it for 48 hours till May 21.

Within 10 days of introducing rationing system, the water level has declined by 0.7 metre from 4.7 metres (May 10). Water can not be pumped once the water-level reaches 1.5 metres at Thumbe vented dam. If water is supplied daily, then it will be sufficient for 13 days. If the present rationing system is followed, then water -level will reach dead storage level by May end. By new rationing system, water can be supplied till June 2, MCC officials said.
