Mangalore, July 09, 2014: Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive officer Tulasi Maddineni has informed that it has been planned to install a software to monitor the malaria cases reported from the district.
Speaking at a meeting convened at the DC office on July 8, Tuesday to discuss the Malaria menace and the steps to control it, she said as soon as a patient is tested positive for malaria in any clinic or hospital, the message is passed on to a number giving details of the patient, the ward number if the case is from the city and the village if the case is from any gram panchayat. The volunteers will later visit the residence of the patient and spray anti-mosquito repellents and also take all steps to stop breeding of mosquito.
The ZP CEO said it is expected that the software would be ready for use within a month.
A.B.Ibrahim, Deputy Commissioner directed the MCC and the District Health Officer to ensure that all hospitals and clinics in the city report malaria positive cases to the authorities within 15 days.
Dr Shantharam Baliga, Dr Srinivas Kakkillaya and others were present.
A total of 886 malaria cases were reported from the city in June while the total cases so far in the city stands at 3,766. The district has registered 998 cases in June while the total cases during the year are 4131. Sources also say there have been nine Malaria related deaths in the district this year.
