Mangaluru, Jan 3, 2015: M Chandra Sekhar, an IPS officer of 1998 batch took charge as the new Police Commissioner of Mangaluru on January 3, Sunday. Outgoing Commissioner S Murugan handed over charge.
Chandra Sekhar earlier held the post of Joint Commissioner (Crime) Bengaluru city. He hails from Nellore in Andhra Pradesh and is a B.Tech degree holder in Aerospace Engineering from IIT Kharagpur and joined IT major Infosys where he worked for nearly two years before deciding to take up IPS.
After successfully passing IPS, he first served as ASP of Shimla and as SP of Bilaspur and Mandi districts.
After being sent to Karnataka on deputation in the year 2009, he was appointed SP of Internal Security Division. Later he served as DCP (East) Bengaluru Division and was subsequently inducted into Karnataka cadre in 2015. He has also served as DIG of Karnataka Fire and Emergency Services.
Speaking after taking charge, Chandra Sekhar said he aims to make the police force people-friendly and his top priority would be to maintain law and order.
The new Commissioner also stated that he would give importance to the use of modern technology in the functioning of the Police Department. The Department would also try to be more active on the social media in order to reach out to more people. At the same time, the Commissioner warned of tough action against those misusing social media.
