Mangaluru, Dec 21, 2016: Mangaluru South MLA J.R. Lobo on Monday said that the proposed new road on the banks of the Netravathi from the Netravathi bridge on National Highway 66 to Kannur on National Highway 75 would also have a bicycle track.
He was speaking after laying the foundation stone for construction of Yekkur-Tochila Road at a cost of Rs. 1 crore here. He said that the government laid stress on improving connectivity in rural areas and hence, roads are being constructed.
For the new road on the banks of the Netravathi, the Public Works Department has ordered a survey at a cost of Rs. 25 lakh through the initiative of Minister concerned H.C. Mahadevappa.
The road would skirt Pumpwell Circle and offer short-cut for vehicles between Kerala and Bengaluru, thereby reducing traffic in the central parts of the city. A bicycle track abutting the road would be a boon for cyclists in the region, Mr. Lobo added. Mangaluru City Corporation councillor Praveenchandra Alva presided.
