Mangaluru, Feb 1, 2016 : With the new helmet rule making helmets mandatory for even pillion riders coming into effect in Mangaluru and elsewhere in Dakshina Kannada as well as Udupi from February 1, Monday onwards, after a grace period upto January 30, cops have already booked several hundreds of riders who have violated the new rule.
First time offenders of the new helmet rule will face a penalty of Rs 100, informed DCP (Traffic and Crime) Sanjeev M Patil. He also stated that identifying repeat offenders has also become easy as of now as the traffic cops are equipped with Blackberry devices.
The Police Department had conducted several awareness programmes across the district with regard to the new rule before enforcing it.
