Udupi, May 20, 2017: A statement issued by the Udupi diocese said that Rev. Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi Catholic Diocese, and Most Rev. Dr. Robert Miranda, Bishop of Kalaburagi, dedicated the new Immaculate Conception Church at Gangolli.
The inauguration and blessing of the church and the solemn inaugural mass marked the dedication of the new church. Both Bishops inaugurated the church by cutting the ribbon with Fr. Anil D’Souza, Dean of Udupi Deanery, Fr. Albert Crasta, Parish Priest of Gangolli, a number of priests from the Udupi Diocese, religious men, women and the parishioners.
The mass was concelebrated by the bishops and priests with Dr. Lobo as the chief celebrant. Dr. Miranda delivering the homily, tracing the history of building of the ‘House of God’ from the Old Testament. Thereafter, Dr. Lobo anointed the main altar with the Chrism oil and sanctified it while Dr. Miranda anointed the walls of the church at four main points.
Dr. Lobo then recited the prayer of dedication of the church and handed over the lighted candle to Fr. Albert Crasta. Later, a public felicitation programme was held. Oscar Fernandes, MP, Gopal Poojary, MLC, Ivan D’Souza, MLC, were present.
