Uppinangady, Aug 24,2015 : In a run up to intensifying agitations opposing the  implementation of the river diversion plan through the back door, the Netravati Nadi Ulisi Horata Samiti   initiated action to demonstrate with a total  blockade of national highway on September 15 followed by Jail Bharo.

The state government is using back door immoral means to implement Yettinahole project to provide drinking water to far off districts like Bengaluru Rural, Chikkaballapur and Kolar, the Samiti leaders and members has been making preparations to prevent the injustice.

Office bearers of the Samiti was held under the leadership of its convener, Dr Niranjan Rai,  August 22 late evening at Uppinangady. A strategy was planned to  rationalise and intensify action in the near future.

A leader of the Merchants Association, reiterated that execution of Yettinahole project will not only create problems for those who are dependent on river water, but will lead to critical situation even for people dependent for drinking water,  underground water table could deplete. The fear that the people of entire Dakshina Kannada district may face drought-like situation was examined. Preparations to commence works on the project are in full bllom.  The time is now or never for the people of the district to come together and erupt against the project in one voice. Efforts to see that our voices are heard by the government should be made by taking up stronger methods of protest. We should use youth and  student forces to get proper ammunition in this war, it stated.

Dr Niranjan Rai mooted the holding of a national highway blockade and Jail Bharo programmes at Uppinangady on September 15, in the district as first phase of the agitation. ’Before that, let us hold village level meetings in all villages, and create awareness about catastrophic affects of this project among all people. All the people of the district must undertake this  apolitical agitation.

Also discussed were ways and means to gather  funds for continuing agitation programme.  Leaders of various organizations like Abdurrahman Unique, Arun Godwin Menezes, Sadanand Dasaramoole, Prashant D’Costa, Manohar Rai, U T Irshad, Mahalinga, Muneer and others present, expressed various plans and strategies to achieve success.
