Nayak blames government for increased communal violence

Mangalore, February 18: State Human Rights Commission Chief Mr. S R Nayak criticized the state government and the police department for their irresponsibility and inability to take appropriate action against communal and criminal forces that threaten to destroy peace and stability. He was speaking to press people during a press conference organized at the DC’s office on Feb 18, Thursday. 







Alleging that the police department has failed to protect the people of Dakshina Kannada, he said that fundamentalist organizations such as the Sri Rama Sene, which publicly threaten minorities and destroy churches and threaten communal harmony, are still permitted to go scot free and talk and act as they like. Warning that such negligence on the part of the authorities will only encourage anti-social elements to attack places of worship, he said that criminals must be punished. 

Mentioning the fact that moral policing is illegal, Nayak urged the district administration to take strict action against the culprits. He also said that cases of forcible conversions must be brought to the attention of the police. 

Alleging that attacks on minorities increased only after the BJP came to power, he criticized the government for its failure to control these incidents. The accused have been granted bail and no action has been taken against them, he observed. 

Nayak requested the authorities concerned to take strict action against those who violate human rights. He called for the accomplishment of duties with responsibility.
