Belthangady, April 5, 2017: Naxal leader Ramesh alias Sameer alias Rafi alias Madhava alias Shivakumar BS (52) shouted slogans in favour of the Naxals while being produced before the Court here on April 4, Tuesday in connection with the hearing pertaining to the incident of torching a bike and Maruti Omni parked in front of the house of Ramachandra Bhat of Kutlur near Naravi in the year 2013. The Court has sent him to police custody for three days for further interrogation in the case.
When Shivakumar was questioned in the court as to why he shouted slogans in the court premises he defended himself saying he needed publicity as he was the leader of a political party.
The Kutlur incident had taken place on November 8, 2013 when a group of around 10 to 15 armed assailants had knocked at the doors of Ramachandra Bhat, a former member of Naravi GP. But when Bhat refused to open the door, they had torched the two vehicles. Though Bhat managed to douse the flames of the bike, the other vehicle was gutted. The Naxals had even left three handwritten letters at the spot.
Shivakumar was arrested by the Andhra Police in Bengaluru on September 11 last year and was later entrusted to the custody of Karnataka police.
He was wanted in connection with several cases and is the prime accused in the rowdy Sudarshan Reddy murder case reported from Raichur in 1995.
A B.A. graduate, Shivakumar who hails from Koramangala in Bengaluru used to work in a chicken stall and bar and was also participating in the protest for ration items by Stree Jagritha Samithi every week. He eventually joined the CPI Maoist People’s War Group.
