Mangalore, July 16, 2013 : National Human Rights Consumers Forum came into being in Mangalore on July 15, Monday. Shanker Shetty, National President of the Forum inaugurated the centre at a function held at Hotel Woodlands Hall.
In his address, Shetty said there has been a significant reduction in the number of cases of violation of human rights and police atrocities due to the presence of the Human Rights Commission.
Prof. Narendra Nayak, well-known rationalist, who was present as a chief guest, said human rights violation cases are being reported persistently mainly because people remain silent. Our rights cannot be protected if we do not question, he added.
Mangalore unit Chief of the Forum U Padmanabha Shetty Niddodi, DEEDS Director Merlyn Martis, Dayananda Shetty, Convenor of the Forum, Jayalakshmi S Hegde, Vice President, Harish Kumar Shetty, Secretary, DM Devikiran Shetty, Treasurer and others were present on the occasion.
