National Disaster Management Authority to conduct Training Programme at NMPT

Mangaluru, Feb 10, 2019: National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) will conduct a basic training programme in New Mangalore Port to enhance the preparedness of Seaport Emergency Handlers to respond against CBRN emergencies, encompassing threats emanating from the use of Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear material at the seaports.

The 1st batch of the five day training programme, will commence on 11th February, 2019, Monday at the New Mangalore Port Trust, Mangalore till 15th February, 2019.

The programme consists of lectures as well as field training, live demonstrations of detection and decontamination including use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Apart from equipping the seaport emergency handlers to handle CBRN emergencies, the training programme will also enable them to provide medical first aid and initial psycho-social support. Experts from the domain departments viz NDMA, NDRF, INMAS, BARC, and DRDO etc. will deliver lectures and hold demonstrations on various related areas of CBRN emergency management. A total of 200 personnel will be sensitized which will include one week training of 50 participants representing various agencies responsible for Operations & Management and sensitization programme of 150 working level staff in a half day programme during the mock exercise.

The training programme is being conducted in collaboration with the Indian Ports Association (IPA), Institute of Nuclear Medicine & Allied Sciences (INMAS) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).
