NMPT, New Mangalore Port Traffic Rises 12.25% in 2016-17

Mangaluru, April 4, 2017 :It is reported that NMPT,  New Mangalore Port located in Mangaluru of Karnataka state during the fiscal 2016-17 handled a record traffic of 39.94 million tonnes of cargo surpassing the earlier record of 39.36 million tonnes handled in  2013-14. The Port has registered a growth rate of 12.25% over the traffic handled during the previous year of 35.58 million tonnes, year-on-year (Y/Y) basis.

The Port has also achieved 5.11% growth over the target of 38 million tonnes fixed by the Ministry.  Increase in the handling of crude for MRPL, Coal for UPCL, Iron ore for KIOCL and LPG has contributed to the above growth in traffic.  The Container traffic has increased by 25.39% by handling a record of 94,928 TEUs as against 75,709 TEUS handled in previous year. 

Following are some of the notable achievements of 2016-17: 


**Record traffic throughput of 39.94 million tonnes as against 35.58 million tonnes in 2015-16(12.25% growth).

**Record number of 1417 vessels handled as against 1243 vessels handled in 2015-16.

**Record container traffic of 94,928 TEUs(14.07 lakh tonnes) as against 75,709 TEUs(11.05 lakh tonnes) in previous year(25.39% growth).

**Record number of 217 container vessels handled surpassing the earlier record of 177 vessels in 2015-16.

**Highest coffee export of 2,32,521 Tonnes (12,010 TEUs)handled as against 1,94,292 tonnes(10,245 TEUs) in 2015-16.

**Record monthly traffic of 40.52 lakh tonnes in Nov. 2016 surpassing the earlier record of 37.64  lakh tonnes in March 2015.

**Record quantity of 16.68 million tonnes of crude oil handled as against 15.88 million tonnes handled in 2015-16.

**Record qty of 3.53 million tonnes of coal handled for UPCL as against 3.31 million tonnes handled in 2015-16.

**Handled record number of 28 cruise vessels with 30,246 passengers as against 23  cruise vessels with 19,160  passengers in 2015-16.

** NMPT became the first port in India to introduce eDO (Electronic Delivery Order) in the port sector for bulk and liquid cargo with effect from December 31, 2016.

**4 MW Solar Power Plant commissioned at the port.


**For the 5th consecutive year, the Port bagged Environment Excellence Award  in Gold Category for Port Sector from Greentech Foundation, New Delhi in 2017.
