Air Commodore Deshpande told presspersons here on Tuesday that the cadets from Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Shimoga and Kodagu districts under the group headquarters would be trained at the centre.

The group headquarters now had 14,000 cadets, he said.

It had plans to open another training centre in Bangalore Urban district.

In addition, it had plans to set up two more training centres in the State, he said. The State now had 69,820 cadets. Goa had 4,000 cadets, he said.

The government had permitted the directorate to admit 20,000 more cadets in Karnataka in the next five years.

As part of the expansion process, the directorate had plans to start seven NCC units in the State.

They would be set up in Bangalore North, Haveri, Chitradurga, Chikballapur, Koppal, Mandya and Ramanagara districts.

New unit
In addition, a new unit would come up at the Sainik School in Kodagu, where 600 cadets would be enrolled, he said.

On the new equestrian squadron coming up in Goa, Air Commodore Deshpande said that it would take about two years to become operational.

The directorate received approval from the Union Government and the location for placing the squadron had been identified.

Infrastructure, including 13 horses, was yet to be put in place, he added.
