Udupi, June 26, 2017: The Iftar Sauharda Koota organised by the Pejawar Seer Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji on Saturday with an objective of fostering communal harmony, seems to have not gone down too well with staunch Hindutva activist and Sri Rama Sene leader Pramod Mutalik.
On Monday, Mutalik, as he himself revealed, set aside all his other engagements and arrived in Udupi to hold talks with the Pejawar seer regarding teh Iftar Koota and also to voice his strong protest to the event. He also reportedly urged the seer not to hold such programmes in the Mutt in the future. The Pejawar Swamiji however, has defended himself and the organising of the Iftar Koota on behalf of the Mutt and said he always held Muslims in high respect and even recollected the co-operation they extend during the Paryaya.
However, being a staunch Hindutva activist this has not convinced Muthalik who has come out in strong words against the seer and has also informed that his talks with the seer has failed.
Speaking to reporters, Muthalik said the Pejawar seer mingling with "cattle slaughterers" was nothing but an insult to the Hindu community. Muthalik also claimed that holding a harmony even inside the Mutt was not acceptable. He further questioned if any Hindu festival was celebrated in a mosque premises.
Muthalik said the Pejawar seer told him that he respected the festival of another religion and did the right thing by organising the event. Muthalik also stated that his organisation will decide on its future course of action after discussions.
It has been gathered that the Pejawar seer has already clarified that during the Iftar meet the guests offered Namaz in the adjacent dining hall outside the temple and that this offering does not insult Hindus in any way.
