Murudeshwar: Woman killed as speed boat hits her

Bhatkal, May 3, 2014: A woman was killed and her husband severely injured after a speed boat rammed them when they were playing in the sea at the famous pilgrim and tourist centre, Murudeshwar, in the taluk on Friday.

Police have identified the deceased as Chandrakala, 32, wife of Sudarshan Ramaiah, 37, a resident of Yelahanka Agrahara in Bangalore who was also injured.

The couple along with their family members had arrived in the coastal town on a tour.

On Friday, at around 11 am, Chandrakala and Sudarshan were playing in the sea when the course man of a speed boat, returning to the shore, lost control and hit the couple. Chandrakala and Sudarshan who sustained grievous injuries were rushed to the RNS Hospital in Murudeshwar and later shifted to Adarsh Hospital in Udupi.

However, Chandrakala failed to respond to treatment and breathed her last while Sudarshan is recuperating. Following the incident, boating was cancelled in Murudeshwar beach.
