Mangalore, March 3, 2014: Police have arrested a home guard working in the Chikmagalur sub-jail on the charges of murdering a married woman at a lodge at Ujire on March 1, Saturday. The arrest was made within few hours after the woman was found dead in the lodge.
Though the two had checked in at the lodge saying they are married couple, it later came to light that the man was not the husband of the woman named Bhagirathi alias Bhagya(35) who was found dead. The man had given his name as Bali M Kallalli (21) and he was eventually arrested. It is learnt, his actual name is Balu alias Balappa.
It is learnt that Balu has admitted during interrogations that he smothered her following quarrel between the two after the former suspected her loyalty as he had overheard her speaking to someone over phone in Telugu language.
After killing the woman, he had quietly left the lodge in his motorbike after placing the naked body of the woman in the bathroom. He even reportedly threw his cell phone near Nidigal Bridge. But the local police along with Chikmagalur police managed to arrest him soon.
It is learnt the two came to know each other six months ago. Bhagirathi was already married and had kids but did not stay with her husband. Balu who is unmarried is also doing a degree course through distance education programme.
Further investigations are in progress.
