Udupi, Aug 27, 2014: Superintendent of Police Rajendra Prasad told press persons here on August 26, that Nithin Achari (24) from Manur, Praveen K V (25) from Kumbasi in Kundapur and a 17year-old youth were arrested.
With the arrest of three persons, Udupi police have solved the murder case of the 84-year old woman, Girija Ural of Manur in Kota. The culprits are said to have committed the crime for gain. The lone ailing aged woman was killed on August 21 by the trio, and fled the scene with the gold ornaments worth Rs 78,000 from her body.
On the fateful day, Nithin, who planed the conspiracy stood outside the house and issued directions to his friends. Praveen and the juvenile entered the house by removing the tiles of the room in the backyard. The SP told that Girija was smothered to death following her resistance.
The culprits had covered their tracks well, that initially made police clueless. Three investigation teams were formed under the leadership of PSIs of Kota, Brahmavar, Heeriyadka and DCIB Inspector Jaishnakar to probe the case. The disappearance of ornaments prompted police to zero in on small time offenders and subequently Nitin Achari was pulled in for interrogation.
The confession of Nithin led to the arrest of the other two. The SP said that Praveen and the juvenile were also involved in another crime, wherein they had robbed gold ear stud worth Rs 11,000 from a woman in Mudagopadi.
The ornaments were confiscated. He said the police teams were able to nab the culprits in a short span of five days and Rs 10,000 is announced to the men who have taken part in the operation. This was a difficult case solved.
