Mangaluru, Jan 03, 2018: The daughter of a prominent Hindutva group leader allegedly eloping with a Muslim youth took another new turn after Mumbai police arrived in the city for inquiry.
The girl, daughter of Kasargod based influential leader of a Hindu organization had come to know Mohammed Iqbal Chowdhary through Facebook 5 years ago. She eloped with Iqbal 5 months ago.
Her parents traced her to Mumbai after she recently contacted them. She was brought to Mangaluru on December 20.
The girl explained in an affidavit that "I came home from Mumbai voluntarily on my own. Now I am living with my father and mother happily."
Iqbal had claimed that he married her in court on June 15 last year. The marriage was registered in Bandra court.
Iqbal has lodged a complaint to the police alleging that kidnapping was resorted to by his in-laws as they were opposed to their inter-community marriage.
In his complaint Iqbal mentioned, "One day evening, I and my wife visited a shopping mall. When we got out of the mall around 4pm, her parents kiddnapped my wife. Previously, on August 31, 2017 too, they attempted to kidnap my wife. But they failed in their attempt."
Acting upon Iqbal’s complaint, a team of Mumbai police has come to Mangaluru to inquire about the case. The Hindu brigade had submitted a memorandum to visiting defense minister Nirmala Sitharaman over the increasing cases of alleged love jihad in the coastal town.
