Mangaluru, June 11, 2017: Ottinene on the Mangaluru-Mumbai National Highway 66 witnessed yet another mudslide on June 11, Sunday resulting in disruption of traffic for over a couple of hours. The heavy rains had worsened the problem leaving hundreds of vehicles stranded right from Ottinene to Shiroor.
The landslide occurred after midnight on Saturday and the road which was covered with debris was cleared for traffic at around 10 am on Sunday with the help of four earth movers belonging to IRB Infrastructure Developers Ltd which had cut the hillock to pave way for construction of road.
An alternate route via Dombe road near Bhatkal has already been identified by the Udupi district administration after Wednesday’s landslide had disrupted traffic for over five hours.
A complaint of negligence and substandard works has already been filed against the NHAI Project Director and IRB Infrastructure by Kundapur Assistant Commissioner Shilpa Nag.
In another alarming development, source revealed that a portion of the newly laid concrete road near the Trasi beach had developed cracks.
