Mother accuses medical negligence for loss of infants hand

Udupi, Sep 17, 2014:  Speaking to media persons, an infant victim’s mother, named Mookambika said that the doctors at Government hospital for women and children Udupi , ignored her labour pains and facilitated delivery only after three days of appeals.

She said the baby was born on June 19, although she started experiencing labour pain from June 16. Despite repeatedly pleas, the doctors facilitated the delivery only on June 19.

After delivery, immediately shifted the baby  was shifted to the incubator in ICU stating that the child was too heavy. After requesting, the mother was shown the baby, when she noticed some problem in baby’s right hand. The baby was then taken immediately for an X-ray at Ajjarkadu government hospital and the report indicated problems.

 Later, infant Anmitha suffered pneumonia in her third week and was referred to KMC Manipal. Doctors told that the nerves in the right hand of the baby were dead and the right hand of the baby can be saved only by operating and grafting the nerves from the left hand.

The doctors in KMC have said that they are conducting the operation on September 27, as it should be done immediately in order to save the child from losing her right hand permanently. The childs father Aneesh is a taxi driver and the family resides at Yerampalli in Brahmavar.

The mother appealed for financial help from donors, as the entire expenses will cross five to six lakh. The cost covers the operation charges and post surgery medication.
