More pay and park spots in city soon, police chief

Mangaluru, July 03 2018: The pay parking lots will be identified in association with the Mangaluru City Corporation. The proposal on pay parking lots have reached the City Police Commissioner. Locations will be identified shortly, said City Police Commissioner T R Suresh.

A denizen  caller told the commissioner:” Pay parking areas have been restricted to one or two places in Mangaluru. Many areas don’t have such facilities. There is a need to introduce pay parking areas in a few more places.”

Suresh replied: “ There are proposal to introduce pay parking lot in seven to eight places. We have already written to the Mangaluru City Corporation in this regard. After getting approval from the council of the city corporation, necessary measures will be taken.”

A local resident alleged that parking of vehicles are allowed till the middle of the road near Mangaladevi Temple.

Spot inspection :  The Commissioner assured that there would be spot inspection and parking would be allowed without inconvenience to commuters.

Another caller said that soil has been filled in the drains to help the movement of marble- laden lorries in Kulai. The marble-ladden lorries are parked on footpaths. Suresh promised the inspecting for necessary action.

Another caller alleged that trucks are parked on Surathkal-MRPL stretch. Another caller said that vehicles are parked on the footpath from Navbharath Circle to the PVS Circle.

School vehicles  :  A woman caller said that the school vehicles are overcrowded. Suresh promised to keep an eye on all the school vehicles.  An Ola cab driver said that local taxi drivers assault the ola cab drivers for picking passengers at the Mangaluru International Airport.

The Commissioner said: “Online taxis can go to the airport if the cab is booked online by the passengers. The cab drivers can file a complaint to the local police station if the local drivers assault them.”

Ganja  :  For a question, Suresh directed the police to nab the culprits who are engaged in smoking ganja behind anganwadi centre at Shaktinagara. 

Suresh said that FIR had been filed against five bus drivers for damaging tubular cones that were placed in bus bays in the city. “The buses have been seized and cases have been filed against drivers,” he said.
