Moodbidri, Oct 16, 2020: Padmakshi, a teacher of Moodbidri who was being treated for Covid-19 at a private hospital in Mangaluru has breathed her last on October 16, Friday.
The teacher who was a part of the Vidyagama scheme of the state government wherein teachers used to visit villages to teach children, had contracted the infection on September 29 and was under treatment at the ICU of a private hospital. Even her husband had contracted Covid but had recovered.
Padmakshi was in the news recently after her daughter Aishwarya had drawn the attention of the education minister and all other ministers concerned towards the plight of her mother through a Facebook post. The Education Minister Suresh Kumar and Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa who had responded immediately had promised to bear the treatment expenses of the teacher and also assured best treatment.
It is learnt as Padmakshi’s condition had worsened on Thursday, her husband Shashikanth and daughter had consulted the Deputy Commissioner and other health officials and had discussed the possibility of airlifting Padmavathi to Bengaluru for ECMO treatment. However, as arrangements were underway the teacher has breathed her last.
