Moodbidri : Youth arrested for raping college student

Moodbidri, June 29, 2013 : Close on the heels of the Manipal gang rape, another rape case has been reported from Moodbidri. In this case, a young man who came into contact with a 19 year old college student after a missed call, has been accused of threatening and raping her.

rape 1 The accused has been identified as Mahesh (24) of Kotebagilu in Marpady village.

He was arrested on June 28 Friday and a case of rape registered against him. The victim is a resident of Moodbidri and a second year degree student in a local college.

According to reports, the accused had come into contact with the girl through a missed call and was also successful in getting her jewellery and pledging it in a bank for Rs 25000. It is learnt, later he repaid the loan and then sold the gold. Yet again he resorted to the same tactic. However, recently when she demanded the jewels back, he asked her to come to the beedi shop near the college where he threatened and raped her. It is learnt, he had raped her at least five to six times in the past.

The accused, it is learnt, is a laborer and is involved in some minor cases. Investigations are underway.
