Moodbidri : Autorickshaw overturns injuring four students; one critical

 Moodbidri, Feb 10, 2014 : Four students sustained injuries, one of them critically when an autorickshaw carrying seven students  overturned at a place called Gandhinagar near here on February 9, Sunday evening.

The mishap occurred when the students, all inmates of the Kodachadri Hostel of Alva’s Xollege, had  been to the town  on Sunday  after they were let free by the hostel authorities.  The critically injured student has been shifted to a private hospital in Mangalore, while other students received treatment at a hospital in Moodbidri. All of them are studying in PUC.

Moodbidri police have registered a case against the autorickshaw driver Ismail Shafi.

What has been gathered is that the police have remained apathetic to many cases wherein autprickshaws  ferried more passengers than the permissible limits thereby  paving way for accidents. It has also been alleged that whenever the students of the hostel are let free  on Sundays, they rush to the town in  whichever vehicle available even if it meant footboard travelling in buses.
