Mangaluru, June 21, 2015 : Heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorm and lightning lashed several parts of Dakshina Kannada district  June 19 & 20.  The skies remained overcast throughout the day. At Kalanja in Belthangady, a 45-year-old man was struck by lightning. He was in the bathroom when he was struck by lightning.

The house has also been partially damaged. Lightning damaged a pumpshed and electrical switches belonging to a person at Aryapu in Puttur taluk. Gusty winds damaged houses in Kerekad near Moodbidri. In the city too several houses with tiled roofs were damaged and tiles loosned and dropped on people who were injured. One significant place was Rosario Cathedral, the tiles on the west side were distrurbed by the strong winds and caused damage and loss. The loss is estimated to be around Rs 20 lakh. Sea erosion has also been reported in Ullal.

Udupi district received an average of 43.2 mm rainfall, Karkala taluk received highest of 53.1 mm rainfall, followed by Udupi taluk, which received 44.6 mm rainfall. Sea erosion has intensified in Kodi Bengre region and houses on the shore are under threat. Kodlady, Kunjarugiri, Shiroor, Gangolli, Sanoor, Ajri, Kamalsheele, Siddhapura, Brahmavara, Kalthuru, Heeriyadka, Parkala and Hebri experienced heavy rainfall.

Mudigere, Sringeri, Koppa, NR Pura and Chikkamagaluru taluks experienced good rainfall. Gusty winds uprooted several trees and electricity poles. With copious rainfall, water level in Bhadra river has increased. Kadur and Tarikere experienced drizzling. Kalasa and Kerekatte have recorded highest of 46.4 mm rainfall.
