Modi Fans start NaMo tea stall at Uppala in coastal Karnataka

Mangalore, Jan 11: Considered a BJP bastion, the coastal Karnataka region now boasts of a makeshift tea stall opened in honour of the party’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi. The ’NaMo tea stall’ went mobile recently at Uppala in Dakshina Kannada district.

 

The tea stall has been started by businessman Sandeep Shetty Heroor along with three students. All the four are self-proclaimed "ardent fans and followers" of Modi and his Gujarat model of development. According to them, this is the first NaMo branded tea stall in south India where Karnataka is considered one of the focus states for the BJP.

Incidentally, the first such stall was opened at neighbouring Tamil Nadu’s Erode district. On the first day of its opening, the makeshift stall offered 4,000 cups of tea for free to the people near Uppala. Now, the price has been fixed at 3 per cup.

When asked about the presence of such stalls in Bihar, Sandeep said, "In fact, we were not aware of the NaMo tea stalls in Bihar. We planned something innovative to recognise the contributions of Narendra Modi. We came up with the idea of this tea stall, which is gaining popularity." The team of Sandeep, Sharat Rai, Suraj Shetty Heroor and Asit Uppala, however, clarify that they do not believe in glorifying Modi.

"We thought of this entrepreneurship for providing part-time employment to students," Sandeep said. That they mean business is clear when Sandeep said the makeshift tea stall will tour Dakshina Kannada district, including the coastal city of Mangalore, on the basis of invitation. "We have received good response from people. They want us to set up the mobile tea stall in their neighbourhood. Now, we have a calendar for all those areas," he added.
