Mangalore, June 4, 2014:  A ‘Mobile Konkani Bazaar’ which sells Konkani books and CDs at the doorsteps of the people  arrived in the city on June 3, Tuesday. Noted singer Vishwas Rebimbus inaugurated the Bazaar which will travel around the city. The Bazaar is an initiative of the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy.

He said the Bazaar is a splendid opportunity for Konkani book lovers and will also contribute towards development of the language.

‘Asthamana’ a  novel bv K Sharada Bhat was released by Janaki Brahmavar, President of Tulu Academy.

In her address, she said it was a welcome sign to see the presidents of all the three academies together and working towards a common endeavour.

Mohammad Haneef, President of Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy released  a collection of poems ‘Pushpamaal’ authored by Dr Varija Neerebail.

Roy Castelino, President  of Konkani Academy said the Mobile Konkani Bazaar which was inaugurated  on May 24 in Bangalore by the Kannada and Culture Minister Umashree has so far registered sale of books worth Rs one lakh.

Tulu and Beary Academy Chiefs were honoured on the occasion.

 Daphney Coelho and Jonisha Lobo who scored high marks in Konkani in SSLC exams were honoured.

Devadas Pai, Registrar of Konkani Academy and others were present.
