Mangaluru, May 12, 2016: In a rather peculiar case, a police constable from Bengaluru who was reported missing from Bengaluru since first week of April, has been found lodged in the district prison in Mangaluru.
It has now come to light that the constable who had come to Mangaluru from Bengaluru had robbed a woman at Kodialbail on April 12 after entering the house on the pretext of asking for water. He was arrested two days later and lodged in the jail.
The accused has been identified as Sandesh, a constable of Mahalakshmi Layout Police Station. In fact, his wife Pavitra had lodged a missing complaint at the Rajagopalnagar Police station on May 5. However, when she received a phone call from an anonymous number that Sandesh was fine, she reported the matter to the cops who upon investigation found that the phone was made from the district prison in Mangaluru.
Accordingly a police team was sent to Mangaluru and Sandesh was traced in the prison. It is learnt, he had told the police here that he was from Hullura in Chamarajanagar.
On interrogations, he revealed that he had outstanding loans in Bengaluru and was also frustrated over being issueless. He said he had come to Mangaluru to end life but instead resorted to robbery which landed him behind bars.
