Udupi, Sep 27, 2019: State Minister for Fisheries, Ports and Mujrai Kota Srinivas Poojary has asked banks not to pressurise fishermen to repay the loans advanced to them at 2%,3% and zero interest rates.
Addressing a meeting held at the ZP Auditorium on September 26, Thursday the minister said the loans upto Rs 50,000 issued by the Banks during 2017-18 and 2018-19 will be waived. The Minister said he has received complaints that banks were pressurising the fishermen.
Representatives of fishermen’s organisations present in the meeting said only a few nationalised banks were giving loans and urged for steps to ensure all banks advanced loans to fishermen.
Kaup MLA Lalaji R Mendon, Deputy Commissioner G Jagadish, Fisheries Department Deputy Director Ganesh and others were present.
