Mangaluru May 5, 2016: District In Charge Minister B. Ramanatha Rai has said that all authorities including the Zilla Panchayat Engineers, MESCOM as well as the PDOs should work in co-ordination to deal with the water crisis in the city.
Participating in a review meeting held at the DC office on Thursday May 5, in the presence of PDOs and other officials of various panchayaths, the Minister warned of stern action against officials who are sluggish in their approach. Authorities must also ensure steps to see that alternative measures are initiated in areas which are hit hard by the water crisis., he said.
The Minister further warned of action against PDOs who failed to attend the meeting.
State Health Minister UT Khader said that though funds have been released, borewells are yet to be drilled in some areas.
DC AB Ibrahim said that usage of water has been restricted in Industrial sector until the water problem has been solved. Presently water is been supplied through 18 water tankers in Surathkal Zone. He said 20 points have been identified to drill bore wells out of which 4 bore wells have been drilled so far. In Mangalore taluk there are 174 bore wells and 90 open wells out of which 41 are in use.
The DC also stated that no private borewells can be drilled till May 31. The cost of private water tankers should be fixed to Rs 900 for every 6000 liters, he said.
