Mangaluru, Oct 21, 2017: Every district in the State will have a government residential college and ten such colleges will start functioning from the ensuing academic year, said State Minister for Higher Education Basavaraja Rayareddy.
He was speaking after inaugurating the decennial celebrations of the Dr P Dayananda Pai-Satish Pai Government First Grade College, Carstreet on October 21, Saturday. Different graduate and post graduate courses were also inaugurated on the occasion while foundation was also laid for some projects.
The Minister stated that the proposed residential degree colleges would function on the lines of Morarji Desai Residential Schools and would come up at a cost of Rs 25 crores. The government would take steps to fill various vacancies in government colleges, he added.
The Bisiyoota scheme of the college was launched by State Minister for Food and Civil Supplies U T Khader.
Patron and entrepreneur Dr P Dayanand Pai who also spoke on the occasion called upon students to take up all problems in life as a challenge.
Mangaluru South MLA J R Lobo presided over the function. Mayor Kavitha Sanil, MLC Capt. Ganesh Karnik, Mangalore University Vice Chancellor Prof. K Bhyrappa, former MLA Yogish Bhat, entrepreneur P Satish Pai, local corporator Ramiza Banu, Principal Prof. Rajashekhar Hebbar were present among others.
Foundation was laid for the D Devaraj Urs Post Matric Hostel while extended Computer Lab was also inaugurated.
