Mangaluru, Feb 27, 2015: A delegation of the Mijar Nagarika Hitharakshana Vedike met DK Deputy Commissioner AB Ibrahim here on February 27, Friday and urged for early measures to develop the National Highway 169 passing through Nantur, Moobdidri and Karkala.
The memorandum pointed out that the proposal to develop the Highway has not yet been approved by the Union Ministry for Surface Transport though it has been years since the National Highway Authority of India had submitted the same.
The memorandum further stated that the road was quite narrow and the Gurupur bridge coming in this stretch of road was in a dilapidated state. Even several stretches of the road have some steep curves at Kulshekhar, Gurupur, Sanoor, Karkala and other places in turn leading to accidents.
The Vedike apprised the DC of the fact that the repeated appeals to MPs and MLAs of the region have been futile and urged him to ensure necessary steps for the approval of the project.
The delegation included Abdul Hameed, Honorary President of the Vedike, Sudhaker Poonja, Vice President, Umesh Rao Mijar, Secretary and Yadav Shetty, farmer leader.
