Mighty waves wash away two youngsters at Suratkal beach

Mangalore, Feb 17, 2014: Two youngsters, both friends   met a watery grave at the Mallamar Beach near NITK, Suratkal on February 16, Sunday when a mighty wave washed them away   even as they were sitting on a huge boulder on the shore.


Suratkal beachThe deceased  are Ashwin (24) and sriram (22) from Gokulnagar in Kulai. The mishap took place at around 3 pm. It is learnt it was Sriram who was first washed away. Though Ashwin tried to rescue his friend, it was in vain and he too eventually drowned.

One Muttilingam, a friend of the duo who had arrived at the beach said the two had called him over phone just half an hour ago, to give them company.The body of the two were retrieved later on the evening.

If Ashwin was a JCB owner and was running ‘Vighneshwara Earth Movers,   Sriram was  working n a private company.  He was the son of Satyanarayana Rao. Ashwin’s father Mohan Putran is a flower merchant at Baikampady.  He has a brother and sister.

Local MLA Moidin Bava visited the beach and consoled the grieving families. Suratkal police have registered a case.
