Mangalore, June 1, 2014: Mayor Mahabala Maarla has promised to convene a special meeting to discuss the Self-Assessment Tax issue and also to clear the apprehensions in the minds of the public regarding the possible hike in SAS.
He was speaking at the first session of the of the Mangalore City Corporation held at the MCC Conference Hall on May 31, Saturday. The meeting lay centred on the SAS issue particularly in the backdrop of the assurance given by the party prior to the election that the property tax would not be increased.
Confusion prevailed at the meeting to some extent when BJP corporators raised questions after questions on the issue. The Mayor tried to explain to them that tax was increased by the District Administration and not the Congress, that too at a time when the election code of conduct was in vogue.
When a corporator raised the problems posed by the street vendors at several areas in the city, the MCC Commissioner assured to look into the same and initiate strict action against those flouting rules.
