Mangaluru, Mar 3, 2018: Mayor Kavitha Sanil and Mangaluru South MLA J R Lobo offered Ganga Pooja and Bagina to river Netravathi at the Thumbay vented dam on March 3, Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, Lobo said water has been stored upto a height of six meters in the new dam and that Rs 10 crore has been released to 37 families which have been affected. He also pointed out that about 25 acres land has been submerged due to storage of water upto six meters. An appeal was made to release Rs 15 crore to be provided as compensation. The available water is adequate for the next two months, he said.
Mayor Kavitha Sanil who spoke on the occasion, while pointing out that the city will not face water shortage this summer, at the same time urged people to use water judiciously. She said the assurance given last year when she took charge as Mayor to ensure storage of water upto six meter has been fulfilled. He said the CM has released funds towards compensation to the affected people from the NFC special fund following an appeal made by her along with Chief Whip Shassidhar Hegde while at Bengaluru for the Smart City meet.
Deputy Mayor Rajaneesh, MCC Commissioner Mohammad Nazeer, Corporators Akhila Alva Sabitha Msiquith, Thumbay Panchayat President Harinakshi and others were present.
