Udupi, Oct 11, 2014: Western Range IGP Amrith Pal has claimed that  intelligence inputs and other sources of information state the Maoist activity in the State including the Western Range, have drastically come down and the fresh recruitment among them has been effectively curtailed.


Amrit Paul igpSpeaking to media on October 10,  the IGP said there are around 20 Maoists operating in Karnataka, and their activities are moderate, especially in the triangular areas adjoining Kodagu with Tamilnadu and Kerala.

The government has offered an opportunity to the Maoists to surrender, with lucrative rehabilitation package. However, the rehabilitation should be ensured only phase by phase after the surrendered Maoist proves that he or she is completely out of radical activities. He asserted that there is no public support to Maoists in the State.

On Moral policing goondaism  :  Replying  a query, the IGP said as of now, no Maoist has come forward to surrender in the State. Emphasizing on the measures taken to maintain law and order in the areas coming under his jurisdiction, the IGP added that whoever takes law into their hands will not be spared.

Stating that moral policing actions are  nothing but absolute goondaism.  He said that police would be made more people friendly in the region. The men in uniform should share a cordial and friendly relationship with the public. Besides, measures would also be taken to enhance policing skills and competence in the region. The police personnel would be provided with better infrastructural facilities.

 Speaking of the underworld network, Amrith Pal added that the dons in the underworld through their  henchmen create all possible crime the Police are a step ahead at all times and  prevent any problems to public.
