Manipal gang rape victim discharged from hospital

Manipal, July 5, 2013 :  The Manipal gang rape victim is learnt to have been discharged from hospital on July 4, Thursday night. However, it is not yet clear as to where she has been taken.

It may be recalled here that the fourth year MBBS student hailing from Kerala was kidnapped while she was walking towards home from the University Library on the night of June 20, by three autorickshaw bound assailants who took her to an isolated location and gang raped her.

All the three accused as well as the elder brothers of two of the accused have been arrested. If Yogish who attempted suicide is still in hospital, the other two namely Hariprasad and Anand have been remanded to judicial custody. The elder brothers of Yogish and Hariprasad are also in prison.

The victim after prolonged counseling had recently on condition of confidentiality had given her statement.  It is expected that the girl would identify the accused and give a detailed statement  so that police can file a charge sheet.
