Udupi, Feb 4, 2014 : The Manipal gang rape victim and the prime witness in the case, deposed before the Udupi District and Sessions Court here on February 3, Monday.
The closed door hearing commenced in a room at the District Court complex at around 11 am and continued till 4.45 pm in the presence of Magistrate BM Angadi, Public Prosecutor, Advocate for accused Purushottam Poojari and prime witnesses Yogish Poojari, Hariprasad and Anand. The entire proceedings were held in-camera.
The victim, a medical student hailing from Kerala arrived at the court with her friends, with her face covered and identified the accused in the court. She later narrated the incident that took place on the night of June 20 after she was abducted in an autorickshaw while she was on way home from the library. The advocate for the accused Purushottam Poojari cross examined her.
The court had earlier issued summons to the victim and her friend to appear for hearing on January 6. However, the hearing was put off following the appeal of the Manipal University authorities citing annual examination.
The next hearing will be held on February 5 wherein other witnesses will be heard. Of the total 108 witnesses, 24 witnesses have been heard till date.
