Udupi, June 22, 2013 : Western Range IGP Pratap Reddy has informed that a special eight member team of police personnel led by SP Dr Boralingaiah has been formed to investigate into the alleged gang rape of a medical student of Manipal University and to track down the rapists.
Addressing press persons here on June 22, Saturday, Reddy said the investigation into the case would be expedited and exuded confidence that the accused would soon be caught in police net.
The IGP said the police would try to talk to the victim if her health permits and gather details regarding the incident. The police team will also meet the doctors treating the victim, he said.
The IGP hinted that the police have already gathered some clues regarding the accused and said the police cannot reveal the place where the crime took place as it may impede investigation.
The IGP stated that State Home Minister KJ George will visit Udupi and Manipal on June 23 to discuss the issue.
Dr Boralingaiah, Udupi SP, was also present at the press meet.
CM condemns incident : Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has strongly condemned the alleged gang rape of a medical student at Manipal and said the police will leave no stone unturned in tracking down the culprits.
