Manipal gang rape : Kasargod MP meets DC, IGP, urges protection for students

Udupi, June 28, 2013 : Kasargod MP and Parliamentary Committee President P Karunakeran, on June 27, Thursday visited Manipal to enquire the health of the gang rape victim medical student of Kerala origin who is undergoing treatment at the KMC Hospital.

The MP met KMC Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Dayananda who apprised the former of the medical condition of the victim.

The MP later met Udupi Deputy Commissioner Dr MT Reju and drew his attention towards the fact that the Manipal University had outsourced the security responsibility and that there was not even a single woman security personnel. He requested the administration to ensure the safety of students, particularly girl student and urged him to entrust the responsibility to the police department. The DC assured to take up the matter with the higher authorities.

The MP even met Western Range IGP Pratap Reddy and secured information regarding the investigation into the case.
