Udupi, july 3, 2013: The Manipal gang rape case and the subsequent arrest of all the three main accused, that too after two of them attempted suicide, had created ripples across the state as well as the nation.
If the police had earlier released the CCTV footages of Manipal University campus which showed the autorickshaw of the accused passing by the campus, in a latest development, the CCTV footage of the Sri Krishna Petrol Bunk at Indrali also reveals that all the three accused had come to the petrol bunk at 11.05 pm on June 20 and had left after filling the petrol tank of the vehicle. The police teams led by SP Boralingaiah have even used this CCTV footage for investigation purposes.
The CCTV footage shows the main accused Yogish trying to smoke a cigarette when the supervisor reprimands him for doing so in a petrol bunk.
Anand is seen holding a water bottle and then bringing it near his mouth when the bunk supervisor realizes that it is whisky and not water. Finally all the three leave the petrol bunk at 11.08 pm and head towards Manipal. It was after this that they kidnap the Manipal University medical student, and then gang raped her as admitted by them during the police interrogation.
It is also learnt that the trio had borrowed Rs 100 from a bar where they had consumed whisky, in order to fill the petrol tank of the autorickshaw. It is said after the incident, the accused had removed a sticker pasted to the autorickshaw without giving room for any suspicion thus giving the cops a slip when they examined the particular autorickshaw. As revealed in the CCTV footage, the person who was seen wiping the autorickshaw is Hariprasd, while the person holding the bottle is Anand.
If rumours are to be believed, the accused had raped the medical student at knife point and that Yogish and Anand had even intended to kill the girl by crushing her with a stone. Information gathered reveals that Hariprasad prevented them from doing so and the victim too pleaded them to drop her at Manipal following which they dropped her near her residence.
With investigations into the case on, the developments are keenly awaited.
