Udupi, June 28, 2013: Udupi Court on Friday remanded the third accused in the Manipal student gangrape case to five days of police custody. Hariprasad, one of the three persons arrested in the Manipal gang rape case, has been produced before the District Court here on June 28, Friday. The autorickshaw used for the crime belongs to Hariprasad was also produced in the court.
IGP (Western Range) Pratap Reddy said two other accused, Yogish Shantappa Poojary and Anand were still in a hospital undergoing treatment after their alleged failed suicide bid fearing arrest.
While the condition of the prime accused Yogish is critical said SP, Dr Boralingaih. From the primary investigation it is learnt that Yogish had consumed pesticide, referring to organic phosphorous.
He was arrested on June 27, Thursday in a dramatic turn of events following the suicide attempt of the main accused Yogish Poojary. Police sources said that Hariprasad has confessed to the crime during interrogation.
He was taken to the Udupi District Government Hospital at Ajjarkad for a medical examination prior to producing him before the court.
Two other accused who had attempted suicide fearing arrest, are undergoing treatment in hospital.
